Roof Replacement and New Roof Installation in Bristol, TN

Tear-offs, new shingle and metal roofs, and re-roofs on existing commercial buildings from three generations of the White family.

Roof replacement and installation in Bristol is the work that has kept the White family busy since 1973. Bobby's father started White's Roofing Co that year, Bobby has been tearing off and putting on roofs since 1991, and his son runs the crew alongside him now.

Most of what we put on is a full re-roof: old roof off, new one on. Some of it is a new roof installation for a house flipper who needs the place ready to sell. We're licensed and insured in Tennessee and Virginia, and most of the folks we roof for heard about us from a neighbor.

Not sure the whole roof has to go? Sometimes fixing the roof you have buys a few more good years, and we'll tell you if that's the case. You can also read about how we roof houses around here.

Old roof off, new roof on

What a Full Roof Replacement on a Bristol House Involves

A replacement is more than new shingles over old ones. Here's the order we follow for roof replacement and installation in Bristol and everywhere else we go.

  1. Measure and pick the roof

We get on the roof, measure it, look at the decking from the attic, and go over shingle or metal with you before anybody orders a thing.

  2. Tear it down to the deck

The old roof comes off, every layer of it, so nothing is hiding under the new one.

  3. Fix the decking

Soft or rotten boards get cut out and replaced. A new roof is only as good as what it's nailed to.

  4. Put the new roof on

Underlayment, flashing and drip edge first, then shingles or metal panels cut to fit every valley and dormer.

  5. Clean up and walk it with you

Nails and scraps get picked up, and we walk the finished roof with you before we call it done.

Shingle roof replacement is the everyday job, and architectural shingles go on most houses around here. Metal roof installation is the other half: steep pitches, cut pieces, dormers, flashing bent on site. Weighing something else? See the rest of what we do.

Signs Your Bristol Roof Needs Replacing, Not Patching

Most calls about roof replacement and installation in Bristol start with one of these.

Residential Roof Replacement on Worn-Out Shingles

Curled edges, bald spots, gutters full of granules. A roof that's leaking in more than one place is past the point where patching makes sense. Residential roof replacement costs more this year and a lot less over the next twenty.

Two Layers of Shingles Already on the House

Plenty of older houses around town got a second layer nailed over the first years ago. When that roof wears out, both layers come off. That means more tear-off and more weight in the trailer, and it's worth knowing before you get a price.

Trading Shingles for a Metal Roof on the Ridges

Folks up on the ridges get tired of picking shingles out of the yard after every windstorm. Metal is a bigger check up front and a roof that sheds wind, rain and snow for a long time. We'll lay out both so you can decide.

Commercial Roof Replacement on Existing Buildings

We re-roof shops, offices and other buildings already standing. Commercial roof installation on a new build isn't something we take on, but if your building's roof is worn out, look at our commercial roofing for existing buildings.

Three generations

A Bristol Roofer That Still Answers the Phone Years Later

A roof replacement company is only as good as the roofs it put on ten and twenty years ago. Ours are all over the Tri-Cities, and we still run into the people who paid for them around town. That keeps a family honest.

Bobby and his son run every job. Bobby's dad, 82 now, still drives out to look at roofs. If your roof can go a few more years, we'll say so. If it can't, we'll show you why. Look through finished roofs in our gallery and judge the work yourself.

Install day

What to Expect on New Roof Day

Most residential roof installation jobs take one to two days from tear-off to cleanup. Steep custom roofs, and plenty of metal jobs, can run four days or more. You'll know which one you've got before we start.

If you live out toward the Speedway, you already know not to plan anything for race weekend. Roof day is no different. Before we show up:

  • Park somewhere besides the driveway, since the trailer needs it
  • Clear anything out of the attic you'd hate to get dust on
  • Let the neighbors know it'll be loud for a day or two
  • Keep kids and pets well away from the edge of the house during tear-off

Pricing

How a New Roof Gets Priced in the Tri-Cities

We don't post prices for roof replacement and installation in Bristol, because the same square footage can price very different. A simple ranch roof and a steep two-story with dormers aren't the same job, and neither are shingle and metal.

Every estimate comes after we've been on the roof and in the attic, and we'll walk you through what's in the number. If a repair would do the job, we'll tell you what a repair would run instead.

What Sets the Price of a New Roof

  • Roof size and pitch
  • Shingle or metal
  • How many layers come off
  • Decking that needs replacing
  • Valleys, dormers and chimneys

FAQ

Questions About Replacing a Roof in Bristol

How long does a roof replacement take on a Bristol house?

One to two days for most houses. Big, steep or custom roofs, metal especially, can take four days or more. We'll give you a realistic idea before we start, and weather can always push it a day.

Is a metal roof worth the extra money in East Tennessee?

Depends how long you plan to stay. Metal costs more up front and outlasts shingles by a good margin. It sheds heavy rain and snow and stands up to the wind on the ridges. If you're selling in a few years, a good shingle roof usually makes more sense.

Can you put a new roof right over my old shingles?

We take roofs down to the deck. Going over old shingles hides soft decking and bad flashing, and you'd be paying for a new roof sitting on old problems.

How do I pick a roofing contractor for a full replacement?

Ask how long they've been around, who they've roofed for on your road, and whether they'll still be answering the phone in ten years. Search roof replacement near me and you'll get plenty of names. We've been in Bristol since 1973, and we'd be glad to be one you call.

Do you replace roofs on commercial buildings?

Yes, on existing buildings. Commercial roof replacement and repairs, not new construction, and we don't sub for other contractors. Read about our commercial roofing work.
